Sydney - Bout frickin time!!

Haha about frickin time is right! While I absolutely loved travelling down the east coast, I longed for a bed that wasn't in the back of a van! And with AnneMarie over, I doubt we'd fit in the back of the van with Christy!!

We got a house in the Sydney Terraces. A row of 10 houses, and a few more around the corner, that were inhabited solely by Irish backpackers/alcoholics! Rent is $145 a week. Its a decent enough place. Has all the mod cons you need. TV, Oven, filthy microwave, washing machine, dryer :D.

I reckon the reason it was a party street was coz there's literally nothing else to do in the area. Theres a small shopping centre, 2 pubs, and thats it. Theres a small town a few minutes walk up the road called Newtown. This has a few nightclubs. It has a huge gay scene. Lesbians everywhere! This would've been so good if they were good lookin....but they weren't, unfortunately!! :p

The place seems cool though. There's a communal grass area out the back with a BBQ. Really nice.

Oh, and the houses are directly under a flight path, and it near the airport, so the planes get pretty low over our heads, especially when the Airbus A380 flies a few metres over the house!! They start at 6:30am and stop at 11:30pm. Handy for whe nya wanna get up early, but not so handy when ya've been up early and want sleep before 11pm! :p

We'll see how it goes. First port of call....getting a job!

Goodbye Cairns!!

So today we said goodbye to Cairns, our first port of call here in Australia.

We had plenty of fun, I met family I hadn't seen in a few years, and met more family who I hadn't seen in 15/20 years!!!

We seen the pubs, clubs, restaurants, beaches, backpacker spots, did a skydive, got some photos, memories and pretty much did everything we could. We even secured our beds for the next 2 months in the form of our Wicked camper vans! What more could ya want? Maybe Alf from Home and Away being your personal tour guide......we can all dream!! haha

So off south we went in our camper vans. Next stop along the Bruce Highway: Airlie Beach and the Whitsundays...

Back to Cairns - The Asylum

After we had travelled the north, around Port Douglas and its surrounding areas, we headed back down south, to our ultimate destination of Sydney.

We got back to Cairns again after a few hours driving and set about getting somewhere to stay for the night. We found a place around the corner from our first hostel called The Asylum. We realised how aptly named it was after a few minutes talking to the staff. The place was run quite well, but the staff were obviously all crazy!! Haha, they were really nice and are obviously well up for a good time but the only way to describe them is CRAZY!! They obviously enjoy their job and have a good time. Another thing about the people over herein Oz, they're really nice and friendly, and eveyone seems genuinely happy. I'm impressed!

The reason we had come back to stay in Cairns, was my brother. He left Ireland last February, and was going to be in Cairns that day, so we came back so I could meet up with him, and my parents. We had a look around that day, went for a bit of shopping, had a pint of two, then said our goodbyes in the shopping centre, and set off once again on our trip.

My parents were in Oz for a month in total, so I would see my parents and brother again in Brisbane....
